Felice Arena’s Umpire Funk dance

We all know how much we enjoyed Felice Arena’s Umpire Funk dance when he visited our school with Adrian Beck and Michael Wagner to perform their show Kicking Goals For Readers.  Now even more people will see Felice’s Umpire Funk dance because he will be performing it on Kids WB this Sunday, September 20th. I think he may also have added a few new moves since we saw it.

This is Felice’s tweet…

I wonder if the  AFL might watch the show and ask Felice to perform his Umpire Funk dance on Grand Final day…now that would be fun!

Only 2 weeks to go to read for the Yeo-low Medal

Our Book Week celebrations are over for another year and now our focus turns to finishing reading for The Yeo-low Medal...

Awesome author Adrian Beck has made another one of his creative and fun videos to remind us that there are less than TWO WEEKS left to read for the Yeo-Low Medal…

Your Reading Scavenger Hunt sheets need to be completed and handed to my by 3.45 pm on Wednesday, September 9th for your chance to win the Yeo-Low Medal for Best and Fairest Reader (and other awards too!).  You can do it…keep reading!!

Have you seen the photos of people reading in their favourite places up on the windows in the LRC? There are some great book recommendations being sent to me as well…

Good luck and happy reading!

The Yeo-low Medal is underway!

Students had until 3.45 pm today to register for the Yeo-Low Medal and an opportunity to participate in the Reading Scavenger Hunt to win the Yeo-Low Medal for our Best and Fairest Reader.

Author, Adrian Beck who named the Yeo-low Medal also sent us a funny ‘Last Chance’ video to remind people to register…

I know we love to read but I don’t think anyone expected this many students would register…

Adrian and I are thrilled with such an amazing response from students from Prep – Year 6 who have joined in to have fun reading and a chance to win the Yeo-Low Medal.

Over the past two weeks students have been registering and many have been busy selecting books during library classes to complete their reading tasks for the Reading Scavenger Hunt and some have already emailed me photos reading in their favourite place.  It is exciting to have such a “Reading Buzz” around the school…and Book Week is just around the corner too!

Good luck and happy reading everyone!

The Yeo-low Medal for Reading

On Thursday of the last week of term Adrian Beck co-author of the Kick it to Nick football books popped into the LRC with signed copies of books for some lucky students. Little did I know that Adrian had another big surprise for us when he opened a box to reveal a limited edition football from this year’s AFL Indigenous Round.

The Indigenous Sherrin football symbolises the celebration of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players. The lizard men depict groups of men outstretched, emphasising high marking which is a unique feature of both Mangrook and the modern game. The feet-like tree roots of the lizard men represent the strong links to country and the traditional game of Mangrook. The images are inspired by the Rock Art shelters in the Gariwerd Ranges (Grampians) in Tjap Whurrong country in Victoria.

Adrian thought this football could make a great prize for a Reading Challenge. “What a brilliant idea!” I said and before I knew it Adrian had whipped out his phone to record us for a video for what he creatively named The Yeo-low Medal – (a play on my surname) and a close relation to the Brownlow Medal but for the best and fairest readers!

Next job for me was to create a Reading Challenge that would be fun and encourage everyone to read a variety of books this term. A big thank you the MPMK website that helped spark my ideas for our footy-themed Reading Scavenger Hunt.

You will need to collect your Reading Scavenger Hunt and recording sheet from the LRC and I will add your name to the Yeo-low Medal readers.  (Registration closes on Friday, July 24th at 3.45pm)

Have fun completing and recording ALL of the 20 reading challenges by Monday, September 7th to have the chance to win the Yeo-low Medal for Reading to honour our best and fairest readers

Thank you so much Adrian for encouraging us with our reading. We are looking forward to Week 9 when we have our big Footy Day and you come and present the winner with the Yeo-low Medal and Indigenous Football…

Happy reading everyone!
