The Very Hungry Caterpillar entries

I have made an Animoto video of some of the entries I have received so far for the Very Hungry Caterpillar competition.  Thank you VERY much to the 38 children who have entered on behalf of our LRC!  I think it will be a very difficult decision for the judges at Readings bookshop!!!  Keep your fingers crossed that one of our entries might win the beautiful hungry caterpillar for our LRC….

Mark Schwarzer is coming to SMOT!!!

Last Thursday we received very exciting news that Mark Schwarzer, goal keeper of the Socceroos is coming to visit us at SMOT!!!

This is all thanks to Matthew P in 4VL who loves both soccer and reading. Matthew reads the Megs series by Neil Montagnana-Wallace and Mark Schwarzer. It is about Edward “Megs” Morrison, a boy who leaves his home in England to move to Australia with his parents and soccer is a way he finds to settle into his new home and make friends.  These books are great reading for boys and girls who love soccer. Visit the Megs Morrison  website to find out more.

Matthew entered a competition to get Mark Schwarzer to your school. He collected as many signatures as he could and sent them in with a letter. Matthew received a phone call from Neil Montagna-Wallace to tell him he had won!!! Congratulations Matthew and thank you for your wonderful efforts. What a fantastic example of great things happening to people who read!

On Friday, June 19th we will be visited by Neil and Mark who will do the media launch for their fourth book in the series called “Megs and the Complete Left Foot”. Mark will talk to the whole school as well.

You will be able to order pre-order your book for Mark to sign on the day by sending your order and money to the LRC.

Don’t forget to congratulate and thank Matthew for entering and winning the competition…

Do you play soccer for a team?  What do you like about soccer?  Do you follow a soccer team?

Colouring Competition – Win a giant Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is 40 years old this year!  I could safely say that nearly every child in this school has a copy of this book in their home library.  Ask your mum and dad if they read The Very Hungry Caterpillar when they were little.

Readings book shop in Carlton is running a colouring competition for a lucky person to win a large plush Hungry Caterpillar.  Our LRC would make the perfect home – especially if we get a new LRC!!!

If you would like to enter the competition on behalf of our LRC you can collect a colouring sheet from the LRC.  You can also  download a copy of the colouring sheet and see the Hungry Caterpillar prize here.  If you want me to post your entry I will need it at the LRC by Tuesday, June 2nd.
