Australia’s Great School Libraries – Honours List

St Martin’s has been nominated as a
“Great School Library”

In October 2015, FAIR (Freedom of Access to Information and Resources) joined with library associations and EducationHQ to seek nominations of Great School Libraries across the nation.

They were looking for libraries that help children and young people find reliable information; use the information effectively; think critically; make informed decisions; work productively with others; build knowledge and understanding of the world; safely navigate the internet; communicate and share their ideas; and find great reads to meet personal interests and abilities.

Nearly 600 students, teachers, parents, principals, library staff and other members of the community nominated more than 200 school libraries across Australia.Β

A BIG thank you to Joaquin and his mum Maridel who nominated our library at St Martin’s. It is an honour to be on this list of Australian school libraries. You can read the 10 questions that nominators had to respond toΒ HERE and scroll down to find our library on the list of Victorian schools.

Sadly there are many primary schools in Australia without a qualified teacher librarian and some schools that noΒ longer even have a library. We are fortunate at St Martin of Tours to have both a library and a teacher librarian where our library is highly valued, much loved and whereΒ The LRC is the Place to Be…

    Bye, Ryan

  14. Hi Miss Y,

The mystery has been solved of the page ripping thief but another mystery is on on our hands why did they put the book back on the shelf?

  15. Hi Aaron,

It’s great to hear you are enjoying Harry Potter. You are in for some magical adventures! I wonder what your favourite part of Harry Potter might be so far?

  19. Hi William,

I really enjoy reading Tristan Bancks’ My Life series. He has so many funny stories!

    Happy reading!

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  20. Hi Oliver,

You might need a bigger house to fit all of our books in or maybe you can live in our library and read your way through our books!

    Happy reading…

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  21. Hi Claudia,

There are lots of videos to enjoy on our blog. I like adding book trailers that are videos about books. I hope you enjoy watching them…

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  22. Hi Riley,

Thank you for your lovely thoughtful comment!

I try very hard to be organised in our library because it’s very busy teaching 21 classes and running our library. I think it’s important that we get to meet the wonderful authors who write the books we enjoy reading.

    Happy reading Riley!

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  23. Hi Antonia,

I hope you come back to explore and enjoy our LRC Blog again soon!

Don’t forget that we don’t write our last names on the blog.

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  24. Hi Lucy,

    Miss Y

  25. Hi Ryan,

Don’t worry…we will be learning how to use Infinity this term so you will know how to use it.

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  26. Hi Audrey,

You’re right! Although I think someone might have simply seen the book sitting on the bench and put it back on the pile of books without realising the pages had been ripped out.

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  27. Hi Madi,

It is pretty funny knowing that the pages were missing because Tristan Bancks ate them!

    Miss Y πŸ™‚

  28. Hi Ava,

I’m so glad you enjoy reading at our library and that you enjoy the colours and displays.

    Happy reading!

    Miss Y πŸ™‚
