The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland

This term the Preps have been enjoying listening to books by a talented Australian author and illustrator Nick Bland.  So far we have read The Wrong Book and The Runaway Hug.  Last Wednesday we participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime by reading The Very Cranky Bear.

We loved reading about  when four friends – Moose, Lion and Zebra and Sheep meet a very cranky bear.  Each of the animals think they know how to cheer up the cranky bear, but it is Sheep who has the answer….

In the Jingle Jangle Jungle on a cold and rainy day,

four little friends found a perfect place to play.

Moose had marvellous antlers and Lion, a golden mane.

Zebra had fantastic stripes and Sheep . . . well, Sheep was plain.

You can read along with the story here….

Do you have a favourite part of the story?

  1. Dear Miss Yeomans,

Lucia (3 years old), loved this gorgeous story.
Her favourite part was when the sheep made a pillow for the bear. Thank you for sharing this story with us!

  2. Dear Nadia

I’m glad to hear Lucia enjoyed “The Very Cranky Bear” so much. The Preps had two favourite parts of the story. They loved when the animals tried to cheer Bear up with the antlers, mane and stripes. They also liked when Sheep made a pillow for Bear.

Thank you for sending along the photos and information with Matteus and Alessandra – I hope you have enjoyed reading their guest blog posts (and are very proud of them!)

Congratulations on the wonderful you job you do encouraging and supporting your children with their reading!

    Miss Y 😀
