Each year for Book Week we have a Creative Challenge. I hope there will be lots of students joining in and having fun letting their imagination and creativity run wild with ‘Books Light Up Our World’

We have been talking about making Story Book Paper Bag Lanterns. Here are some great ideas and steps for making them from My Little Bookcase

You can also search online for “Books Light Up Our World” and select ‘images’ to find some of the ideas we have talked about in the LRC…

Books Light Up Our World

I read Zart Art’s fabulous Book Week 2015 book and have used it to help me create my first MindMup to help us think about the theme. (Click on the image to make it larger)

How would you explain ‘Books Light Up Our World’?

When you look at the MindMup is there something there you hadn’t thought about before?

Read Across the Universe Challenge Entries

Thank you to the 69 students from P- 6 who entered our Read Across the Universe Challenge with wonderfully creative entries including posters, cakes, models, slideshows, songs, an online game and Minecraft creations. Winning entries received books (including “The 39-storey Treehouse”) reading owls or book marks and every student received a certificate.

These are some of our entries…

You might also like to try Nicholas’ Read Across the Universe Challenge  that he made using Scratch.  Nicholas will be continuing to develop this game and add sounds and more levels.

Celebrating Book Week

Book week at our school was a wonderful celebration of books and reading with our Shelfies, Read Across the Universe Challenge, Reading Minutes School Challenge, Guest Readers in the LRC and our Book Week Parade…

Excitement was at fever pitch by last Friday as we edged closer to our Book Week Parade! Not even the rain and grey sky were going to put a stop to our parade with Mrs Stewart making sure we all fitted snuggly into the GECCO. What an amazing sight from the stage to see so many excited students from P-6 and teachers creatively dressed as their favourite book characters! For over an hour we enjoyed watching a wide array of  book characters walk across the stage.  A big thanks to both students and parents for their fabulous efforts!

There were lots of different interpretations of Billie B. Brown, Alice Miranda, Pearlie, Fancy Nancy, Specky Magee, Zac Power, Andy Roid and characters from the world of Harry Potter and Roald Dahl’s books.  We even had a fabulous tractor that was parked in the LRC for the day!

For the remainder of the day, students had fun participating in literature, art and maths activities based on the 2013 Short-listed Picture Books and the Read Across the Universe theme for Book Week. After lunch the afternoon was spent Buddy Reading with lots of favourite stories shared…

Guest Readers in the LRC for Book Week

During Book Week some of our teachers volunteered to be Guest Readers in the LRC during some of our breaks.  (I think they secretly wanted to sit and read in our Story Chair!)

It was wonderful to see lots of children eagerly coming in to enjoy listening to a variety of stories throughout the week. I know that I loved being read to! Our Guest Readers were so popular that we think we might trial having a set day each week for a Guest Reader to share some stories…

Which story did YOU enjoy listening to when you came to the LRC?
