I wasn’t quite sure how I would feel as I walked up to the LRC on January 6th with my key in my hand. However, I didn’t need to worry…the friendly alien was still there and greeted me with a big smile saying “Take me to your readers”. As I walked through the LRC door I was met by the familiar scent of our library and as I looked around everything seemed in its place just as as it was twelve months ago as though I had never been away…I took a deep breath, smiled and knew I was home!
I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Mrs Philp who did the most wonderful job keeping the LRC running smoothly, buying books, inspiring students with her lessons, resourcing classroom teachers, organising Book Week, running the Book Fair, hosting author visits and ensuring the LRC was still “The place to be”. I hope one day she will become a teacher librarian because we need teachers with her passion and skills in our school libraries.
In case you were wondering what I was up to in 2014. I had a wonderful Gap Year that took me to NSW, ACT and WA with adventures and fun along the way as well as time to stop and relax and read! These are a few of my (many) photos…
It’s great to have you back! This year will be my turn to take a Gap Year of sorts. I’ll be enjoying mummy time with my newborn son, Oskar.
Cannot wait to see all the fun this year in your library and looking forward to starting our own skype bookclub this year!

I am soo happy that you are home again. 2014 has been an incredible year for all of us and I have read so many books! Some of my favourites have been The Hobbit, Wonder, Once, Then and After(haven’t read the 4th one yet!), Little House On The Prairie (I Went as Laura for the book fair!) and, finally, my new favourite book series, The School For Good And Evil!!! I’m so excited about the 3rd book and the movie!! I loved the 1st and 2nd book so much, I even enrolled in Soman’s online school! Go Evers!!(I got into good school!) I am hoping 2015 will be even better.

Thanks Miss Y for sharing your photos of your Gap Year. It was a fabulous opportunity to stop and explore our wonderful country. Now you have so many visual images you can draw on when life gets busy and you get caught up in the everyday things like washing and cleaning.
I hope you still make time to find new cafes and visit new places.

Lot of fun reading along the way too. Speaking of reading I just finished reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. I was so overwhelmed reading this book with so much heartache that even now if I think about it I think I will begin to cry. I was planning to see the movie but after reading this book I really couldn’t bring myself to it. Makes you think have we really come far in the human race.
Now enjoy being back and hopefully I will re visit your blog soon.

After being back at school last week, I’m feeling like I’ve never left! I’m really looking forward to seeing all of our students in the LRC this week.
I too found ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ a very emotional read and decided not to buy it for our school so students could read it when they were a little older. When I visited Auschwitz in 2013 and I followed the path taken by so many Jews walking along the railway tracks to Birkenau I wondered how far we have come as a human race and think we still have a long way to go.
I hope BB settles in well and has a wonderful year at secondary school. I’m sure she is looking forward to new experiences and challenges!

I don’t think I’ll ever forget that moment on the Sydney Harbour Bridge listening to the opera…I had goosebumps!
We have lots of students who love Lego at school and I was hoping I might be able to source some Lego so we can use it to do some creative construction when the LRC is open at lunchtime.
