Magic in Marysville

On Friday I took a day trip to visit the beautiful town of Marysville that was almost destroyed by the Black Saturday bushfires on February 7th, 2009.  I wasn’t quite sure what I would find there…

It was wonderful to see that the trees and plants were growing again around Steavenson’s Falls.  There were lots of burnt trees that didn’t have branches but were covered all over in green leaves!

At Gallipoli Park  which was badly damaged and where many people sheltered from the fires there is now a wonderful Kin Playspace for children,  a peaceful Reflection Garden and a beautiful sculpture called “New Life ” created by resident artist Bruno Torfs.  This sculpture really touches your heart…

After seeing Bruno’s “New Life” sculpture I knew I had to visit his  Art and Sculpture Garden.  What an amazingly beautiful and magical place it is! It is a lush green, colourful garden filled with Bruno’s amazing sculptures that he makes from clay and fires in his kiln.  It is hard to believe that this beautiful garden was destroyed by the bushfires…

As you walk around there are various sized sculptures dotted throughout the garden…some are funny, some are magical or mythical and some are people from Bruno’s South American culture.  Sometimes you have to look  closely to find what Bruno has hidden in his garden or how he has transformed a tree….

Did you have a favourite sculpture?
Did you see someone you know  in the last photo?
You can find out more about Bruno as well as how he has restored his Art and Sculpture garden at his website HERE.  Better still…go and visit this magical garden with your family!
