Michael Morpurgo’s latest book, Shadow is another wonderful story!  The idea from this story came to Michael when he was reading about a black labrador working as a sniffer dog  for the Australian army.  After a fierce battle the dog  went missing and was presumed dead.  Fourteen months later the dog walked out of the desert and introduced itself to a new group of soldiers.  They were amazed the dog had survived all this time on its own.  Michael thought about this and decided the dog must have had some help to survive and the idea for his story began…

This story is told by three people.  Aman tells of his life in Afghanistan and how he and his mother escaped with the help of Shadow.  Matt tells about his friendship with Aman and his  new life in England.  Matt’s grandfather is a retired journalist, who after meeting Aman and his mother in a Detention Centre decides he needs to work with Matt to help them. 

If you like animal stories, survival stories and stories about other cultures then you will really enjoy this story!
